Tom Bassett knows he's fortunate to be living such a good life.
After serving in the military, Tom spent 17 years working at Kraft Foods. When he completed a business degree, he was ready for a new line of work. In exploring his options, Tom's financial representative encouraged him to look into an open part-time financial associate position.
Tom built his career on his uncle's advice, "If you take care of your people, they'll take care of you."
Since Tom began in 1981, there have been countless changes in technology that have kept him learning and adapting. He remembers fondly that his first rate books were the size of his current laptop computer. Yet, it's working with and traveling to meet different people that have been the most rewarding aspects of Tom's successful career.
On any given day, Tom stops and thinks, "What a neat way to make a living-driving around and talking to people."
Tom and his wife, Linda, live in Fort Wayne, Ind. They have two grown children, Jason (and his wife, Kimberly) and Kristen (and her husband, Wesley), and four young grandchildren, Samuel, Alivia, Meredith and Lillian. Tom and Linda spend a week every summer with their children and grandchildren in South Carolina golfing, bicycling and enjoying their time together.
