Heartwood was purchased in October 2005 by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to carry out and complement the organization’s mission, demonstrating its core values in a unique and different way. Heartwood is an experience of togetherness, learning, leisure, renewal, celebration, and overall wellness for the benefit of Thrivent Financial members, the Lutheran community and nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities and Fox Cities.

The 700-acre northwoods property features two private lakes and frontage on the Namekagon River, a national scenic waterway. Heartwood can comfortably accommodate guests in:

• Five two-bedroom lakeside cottages that sleep up to 6 people.
• Thirty-two hotel-type guestrooms (with lake view), each with 2 queen-size beds.
• Ten duplex units that each sleep up to 14 people.

Heartwood in the Summer and Fall
At Heartwood, you can enjoy the endless fun of summer while experiencing a group event venue and services that will exceed your expectations. Summer is the perfect time to get away from the ordinary and add outdoor fun to your plans. It’s also a great time to make reservations for your next planning retreat or family vacation at Heartwood. Try your hand at fishing Heartwood’s Hoinville Lake or one of hundreds of other area lakes and waterways. Consider a shuttle canoe trip on the nationally protected Namekagon River or play a game of sand volleyball. Enjoy swimming at the beach or a game of bocce ball. Heartwood has 700 acres for your enjoyment.

Fall is the ideal time to take a break from your everyday stresses to enjoy the scenic walking/biking trails, watch wildlife at play, paddle around the lake or simply kick back and soak in autumn’s beauty

Recreational activities at Heartwood include:

• 25 kilometers of scenic trails for hiking, trail-biking, x-country skiing*

Thrivent Programs at Heartwood
Heartwood is an ideal place for Thrivent Financial to provide educational and social programming that meets the needs and interests of our members, the Lutheran community and nonprofits of the Twin Cities and Fox Cities communities. Programs will generally fall into three categories:  1) Vocation & Daily Life; 2) Leadership Development; 3) Wellness (Living Well and Long).  Suggestions for future programming are welcomed and should be sent to Heartwood@thrivent.com.

Grace Place Retreat for Lutheran Educators
(July 28-Aug. 1, 2008)
In cooperation with Grace Place Retreat Ministries, this week-long retreat is set to be a safe-haven experience for Lutheran educators and their spouses for purposes of education, restoration, reflection and recreation.  During this retreat, individuals will learn new ways to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Discounts and Benefits for Thrivent Members and Selected Group Events
Thrivent Financial’s Heartwood Conference Center & Retreat provides a special venue to meet the needs of our members, the Lutheran community and nonprofits in the Twin Cities and Fox Cities communities.  Thrivent Financial members and selected group events receive a special 50% discount on all Heartwood lodging and food service rates. Please refer to the Heartwood Web site for regular overnight lodging rates. Group food service rates vary according to the needs of the group.  Heartwood does not have a restaurant for individual meal service.

Individual Thrivent Financial members staying at Heartwood and selected group events  will also receive the following benefits:

Eagle Lodge Hotel Rooms

*add $10/night for room with kitchenette
*add $20/night for king suite

Newly updated standard lakeside guestroom with 2 queen beds, high-speed and wireless Internet, private deck/patio, lounges with fieldstone fireplace, outdoor hot tubs, exercise equipment & more.

Pine Village Duplexes

Each duplex half sleeps up to 14 people in four bedrooms (three with two sets of bunk beds and one with one set of bunk beds). Living room has a gas fireplace and satellite television; the kitchen features a refrigerator, stove, microwave, cooking and eating utensils; and double bathroom facilities. (Folded bedding & towels available, $2.50 per set.)

Wild River Cottages

Each newly updated lakeview cottage sleeps up to six. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has a set of twin beds, and the living room has a queen sofa/sleeper. There is a full kitchen, dining area and living room complete with satellite television and gas fireplace. Each cottage also has a screen porch and grill.
