Business Overhead Expense Insurance from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is flexible—it can be customized for each business owner and coordinated with other business overhead expense income plans. Select from various contract types, benefits and riders when deciding on the coverage that best suits your needs.

Contract types:

  • Noncancellable—Guaranteed to be renewed until the contract anniversary on or after your 65th birthday (premiums do not change).
  • Guaranteed renewable—Guaranteed to be renewed until the contract anniversary on or after your 65th birthday (premiums may increase).
  • Waiting period—Select either 30 days or 90 days.
  • Maximum benefit—Select either 12 or 24 times the monthly Expense Benefit.

Additional benefits or riders:

  • Future purchase option—This option allows you to increase the monthly benefit, if your expenses justify it, regardless of your health. Available for additional premium.
  • Waiver of premium—Waives your premiums during a period of disability.
  • Exchange benefit—If you're no longer self-employed, this benefit allows you to exchange a business overhead expense contract for an individual disability income insurance contract from Thrivent Financial.*
  • Carry-over benefit—Your business expenses may not be identical from month to month. Because of this, the carry-over benefit allows you to carry over unused benefits into future months.

No benefits will be paid for:

  1. Disability or any other loss caused by any of the following:
    1. Attempted suicide, while sane or insane.
    2. Intentionally self-inflicted injury, while sane or insane.
    3. Any act of war, declared or undeclared, or any act incident to war.
    4. Sickness or injury, which occurs or begins whole on full-time active duty with the armed forces of one or more countries. This does not apply to a period of two months or less of active duty for training purposes only. Upon Written Notice we will refund the portion of any premium paid for any periods of full-time active duty not covered.
    5. Pregnancy, childbirth or elective abortion. But we will not deny the benefits in the event of disability due to Complications of Pregnancy.
  2. Any period the insured is incarcerated.
