Does Anyone Out There Care?

When an elderly parent or loved one in your life needs help and attention, you may wonder if anyone else in the world understands. You may feel very lonely.

Take time to look around you. There are many choices you can make and resources you can choose from when the loved one in your life needs care.

Several forms of care and living arrangements are available in most communities, depending on the level of care your parent or loved one needs.

  • Continuing care retirement communities. While these may be financially prohibitive, they do bring people in at a healthier stage in their lives and promise lifetime access to housing and long-term care.
  • Retirement hotels. These facilities offer a room or suite for the elderly and may include recreational facilities.
  • Residential care homes. These facilities are licensed to provide care and personal assistance for the elderly at various levels of need.
  • Assisted living facilities. These facilities are less expensive than the continuing care retirement communities. They are very good at helping with the activities of daily living.
  • Hospice. There are various types of hospice facilities that can include one's home, a nursing home or a designated facility. Hospice is a philosophy of allowing a person to die with dignity.
Depending on where your loved one is in the caregiving spectrum and other factors, you can select from several caregiving facility alternatives.

People out there do care, and facilities are available to help the person you love who is in need. Take time to look for the caregiving facilities in your community or region.
