Final IRS 403(b) Regulations Require Employers to Sign 403(b) Agreements

To ensure compliance with the final 403(b) regulations, we are requesting employers with 403(b) plan assets invested in Thrivent Financial annuities or Thrivent Mutual Funds, to complete the applicable 403(b) agreement to confirm the status of Thrivent Financial (for annuities) and/or Thrivent Investment Management Inc (for Thrivent Mutual Funds) as product providers for the 403(b) plan.

  • Complete a Service Provider Agreement if Thrivent Financial and/or Thrivent Investment Management Inc (TIMI) will remain a product provider for the 403(b) plan. This is used if new contributions will continue to be sent for the plan.
  • Complete an Information Sharing Agreement if participants will not be able to send new contributions to Thrivent Financial and/or TIMI as of January 2009. This agreement will indicate if the participant can still exchange 403(b) assets from other product providers to Thrivent Financial and/or TIMI.
  • Complete the Third Party Administrator Certification form if your 403(b) plan has selected a Third Party Administrator (TPA) to help with administration of the plan. This will allow us to share information and take instructions from your TPA on your behalf.
  • Update your 403(b) plan document. If Thrivent products will continue to be available in your 403(b) plan, remember to include Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (for annuities) and/or Thrivent Investment Management Inc (for Thrivent Mutual Funds) as product providers in your plan document.

There are special considerations you should be aware of if you are a congregation that also uses a 403(b) plan provided through your national church body. Please review this document for more details.

For more information about this agreement requirement, please contact our Investment Interaction Center at 888-422-5737 and say “403b mailing”.
