Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity
In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene struck western North Carolina, bringing destructive winds and record-breaking rainfall. It became the costliest natural disaster in the state's history, claiming more than 100 lives, destroying homes and infrastructure, and leaving communities without power, transportation, and communication for weeks.
Despite experiencing damages of their own, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity quickly emerged as a beacon of resilience and hope. Within just one month, they launched an application portal for disaster-related home repairs and maintained nearly every closing date for homes already under construction. They are committing to rebuilding 60 homes in the next 3 years and expanding access to affordable housing in a region where the need is now greater than ever.

In November 2018, the Camp Fire swept through Butte County, California, becoming the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history. Entire communities were reduced to ash, with over 10,000 homes destroyed, over 50,000 people displaced, and countless lives forever changed.
Through the heartbreak, hope endures. Habitat for Humanity of Butte County is partnering with families to rebuild—not just homes, but lives—through affordable homeownership opportunities. In 2025, eight new homes will begin to rise from the ashes, with plans to build 8–10 homes annually in the years ahead.
The road to recovery is long, and there's never been a better time to join this vital effort in a resilient and beautiful corner of Northern California to rebuild dreams and restore community.

Chipola Area Habitat
Hurricane Michael, a category 5 hurricane, struck the Chipola area in 2018 decimating the local housing stock, destroying homes, and leaving many uninhabitable. This tragedy, along with the housing shortage the area faced prior to the hurricane, made it challenging for them to recover.
Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity committed to building 20 new homes across Jackson and Washington counties through the end of 2025 to assist homeowners in their journey to resilience.

Get involved
Whether you want to lead your own team or join one of our existing teams, there is a role for all levels of participation. To lead a team, fill out our team leader interest form . Already a trained team leader? Submit a proposal for a new team through the proposal link you received after training. To join an existing team, see our open teams below . Become a team leader
Leading your own volunteer crew has its benefits. Funded by Thrivent, team leader program expenses are fully covered and travel cost coverage is dependent on location and leader preference. Thrivent clients with benefit membership who are interested in recruiting and leading a team of 10 or more are invited to submit their team leader interest form.

If the location you're looking for is not listed, check back often – we will update builds as they become available. International open teams are not available at this time.

Thrivent contributions help offset the program cost and donation for all participants – making our volunteer program more affordable.
